Preserving Old Faithful

3/1/1872

This public law created Yellowstone National Park in 1872. America’s first national park, Yellowstone is home to the geyser Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The Act described the boundaries of the park; withdrew land within its boundaries from settlement, occupancy, or sale; and set the park aside for “the benefit and enjoyment of the people.”
