Bound to the Confederate effort
This ledger sheet lists slaves employed at the Confederate States Armory in Macon, Georgia, in December 1862. You can find the names and occupations of each slave and the amount paid to his owner. It was not uncommon for slaves to be employed or contracted out to support the Confederate war effort. They were used in essential civilian jobs to free white males for service in the Confederate Army.
