Land grant at age 92

ca. 1855

Pvt. Theophilis Swain, who died in 1819, served in the New Hampshire Militia for three months in 1780 defending West Point, New York. His widow, Elizabeth, filed this illustrated family record supporting her claim for compensation under the 1855 Bounty Land Grant Act. In 1856, at age 92, Elizabeth received a certificate for 160 acres in Iowa.
