A Dowry of Slaves

Slaves were part of a dowry gift to Elizabeth Taylor from her mother, Ann Taylor, while living in Caroline County, Virginia. Not only did Elizabeth receive three slaves—Jenny, Joe, and Anthony—but also their “future increase.”
