Moving on up!

This 1846 map of the Capitol Building contains plans to create a chamber for the Supreme Court. At that time, the Court was meeting in the basement of the Capitol, but it moved upstairs in 1861. In 1935, the Supreme Court Building across the street from the Capitol began housing the Justices, completing the physical separation of the three branches of government.
