Philip Sell

ca. 1843

Sixteen-year-old Pvt. Philip Sell served for 13 months in Capt. Peter Burris’s company of mounted infantry in the North Carolina line. He died in 1831 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. His wife, Dorothy, filed this illustrated family record as proof of her relationship to Philip for her widow’s pension application. She was awarded $43.33 a year in 1843.
