The Birdman of Alcatraz roosted here

Robert Stroud, more familiarly known as the Birdman of Alcatraz, served 11 of his 17 years in the prison hospital in this 1940 architectural plan. Situated on an island in San Francisco Bay, the U.S. Penitentiary on Alcatraz held the nation’s toughest criminals, including Al Capone and “Machine Gun” Kelly.
