Sunflowers and a crown for a baby girl

ca. 1777

George Nolf served for over 18 months in the Northampton County Militia, protecting settlers between the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers from attacking Native Americans. Nolf began service as a sergeant and rose to command a company as a captain. His wife, Susanna, submitted this fraktur, recording the birth of their daughter Susan on June 21, 1777, in support of her claim for a widow’s pension. She received $300.44 a year. This fraktur is the work of Frederich Krebs and is illustrated with three common elements, the Carolina Parakeet, a crown, and sunflowers.
