Keeping his promise
During Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign for President, he promised to nominate a woman for the Supreme Court. President Reagan followed through on this pledge on August 19, 1981, by nominating Arizona State Court of Appeals Judge Sandra Day O’Connor. The U.S. Senate confirmed O’Connor on September 22, 1981. She served for more than 25 years.
