Gerald Ford, Jr.

This 1918 photograph shows Gerald R. Ford, Jr., who grew up to become the 38th President of the United States. Ford was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He wears a white knee pants outfit, high button shoes, and a “Buster Brown” hairstyle. Buster Brown was a character in one of the earliest newspaper cartoon strips. Ford’s outfit, however, is not a costume, but is typical for young children of the era.
