Fall in!

ca. 1898

This photograph, taken in 1898 in Greenville, South Carolina, captured troops from the 5th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Greenville was home to Camp Wetherill, where troops trained for participation in the Spanish-American War. The Bay Staters never made it to the war zone, spending their time organizing and training in camps like this one. The regiment stayed at Camp Wetherill from November 18, 1898, until it was mustered out on March 31, 1899.
