A group of immigrants carry their possessions as they pass through the Immigration Station in New York Harbor in this undated photograph. Ellis Island was the major East Coast processing center for immigrants coming into the United States from 1892 until 1924. An estimated 20 million individuals began their new lives in America on Ellis Island.
